This room is named in honour of Salford resident and father of vegetarianism, Reverend Cowherd. It was from his church sermons that the first ideas of vegetarianism in Britain were formed, as Cowherd’s congregation who ironically attended the Beefsteak Chapel (located just down the road) were meat free from 1809!
